Nursery School Early Years Volunteer Experience
If you are thinking about a career in Early Years or are in the process of applying for a place on a teacher training course, you may be looking to gain experience of working in a nursery school. We offer the opportunity to volunteer, usually for six weeks or sometimes over a longer period, in order to build up experience.
We are happy to share our vision of outstanding early years education, with you in return for your commitment to completing the volunteer induction process.

Safeguarding requirements: keeping children safe in early years is our highest priority, and we require all adults, including volunteers, to adhere to our safeguarding and child protection procedures. We will require background checks and identity checks for anyone undertaking regular voluntary work in our nursery school, and volunteers will need to understand and adhere to our Code of Conduct for Volunteers.
Slade Nursery School
A great opportunity to come and join the team at Slade Nursery School:
- Temporary to cover maternity leave: Grade 4 Early Years Support Worker (36 hours a week, 8 am - 6pm, 48 weeks a year )Starting after February Half term
- Temporary, Grade 4 1:1 Early Years Support Worker ( 15 hours a week, 12 - 3pm, term time only)

Shortlisting for interview is carried out strictly on the information supplied on your application form.
It is therefore essential that where appropriate you evidence, and give examples, of how you match the selection criteria on the person specification.
Due to our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, the successful applicant will be required to undertake a criminal record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Our selection process will assess rigorously all candidates’ suitability and their commitment to safeguarding children. This will include:
- Testing candidates' understanding and commitment to safeguarding children
- Examining original certificates of professional qualifications and proof of identity
- Identifying gaps and anomalies in career histories
- Asking referees specific questions about:
o Reasons to doubt candidates' honesty, trustworthiness or reliability;
o Whether candidates are currently the subject of any form of disciplinary or competency inquiry or warning;
o Any disciplinary offences relating to children including any in which the penalty is “time expired”;
o Any child protection concerns.
We reserve the right to contact referees to check out any concerns arising from the application, reference or interview. Please ensure one of your referees is your current or most recent employer. If you do not name your current line manager we will contact them to seek a reference.
